Artifact 8: Health Online

Watching this video on health online just shows how much people are using the internet and technology today.  Having those apps for on a cell phone like Web MD is very helpful.  I know a lot of my friends rely on Web MD when they are feeling sick or have anything wrong with them.  It is very beneficial to have those type of things available to us; it is a lot more convenient than going to the doctor for every little issue a person encounters.  I also thought that the website patientslikeme.com is very neat.  That is cool that they make created that so children or anyone can interact with others that are going through the same thing.  I know if I was going through that I wouldn't want to just talk to my friends or family members about that because they aren't experiencing that.  It gives kids the courage to talk to people about that and shows them they are not alone.  The video game that they made is also very interesting.  Although I have never gone through any kind of situation like that, I can only imagine how overwhelming it would be to have cancer and go in to the doctors office as a child and have them try to explain what is wrong or what procedures they are going to do.  All of these new apps and technologies for health online are very beneficial to children experiencing that.  This can make going through cancer a lot easier for children.

  1. I know people that use web MD and I use web MD also. The internet has everything on it including health tips. The internet is faster and more convenient. If you have a question about you health that may be minor you can look up the symptoms on the internet rather than calling your doctor or doctor's office. It seems like doctor's offices are always very busy. Thanks to the web MD we can answer these questions ourselves and still call our doctor if our questions are not answered. The web MD is just another thing that makes the interntet so amazing.

  2. Isn’t it crazy how the Internet makes our lives so much more convenient? Like you said, if someone has a problem with being sick, all they have to do is go to the website and type in their symptoms. That would be way easier than having to go to the doctor and paying a fee just for him to tell you something that took you less than 5 minutes to look up. I also liked the idea of the website patientslikeme.com because people can interact with others that are going through the same thing as they are. To some point, this website does more for the patients than just communicating. It lets them know that they aren’t alone; that there are other people in the world that feel just the way they are. They may wonder, why does this happen to me? Why doesn’t it happen to anyone else? They may find relief in knowing that there are others. It may save them from a state of depression. The video game is something that I feel is incredible. Even though it isn’t real, it shows the players of the game that cancer can be beat at anytime, so keep fighting because you never know what will happen. Because I personally have never experienced cancer, I can only imagine what they are going through. Technology is growing more and more everyday. Not only are there websites and games, but they can also be accessed from certain smart phones, or phones that are capable of being on the internet.
