Artifact 8: Health Online
Watching this video on health online just shows how much people are using the internet and technology today. Having those apps for on a cell phone like Web MD is very helpful. I know a lot of my friends rely on Web MD when they are feeling sick or have anything wrong with them. It is very beneficial to have those type of things available to us; it is a lot more convenient than going to the doctor for every little issue a person encounters. I also thought that the website patientslikeme.com is very neat. That is cool that they make created that so children or anyone can interact with others that are going through the same thing. I know if I was going through that I wouldn't want to just talk to my friends or family members about that because they aren't experiencing that. It gives kids the courage to talk to people about that and shows them they are not alone. The video game that they made is also very interesting. Although I have never gone through any kind of situation like that, I can only imagine how overwhelming it would be to have cancer and go in to the doctors office as a child and have them try to explain what is wrong or what procedures they are going to do. All of these new apps and technologies for health online are very beneficial to children experiencing that. This can make going through cancer a lot easier for children.

Artifact 6- I Am Anonymous
Watching this video kind of made me confused about what the website 4 Chan actually is but as the video went on I started to understand it more and more. I had never heard of this website and the only thing I can really relate it to is Wikipedia. People can go on there and edit or create pages about everything someone would research. I guess 4 Chan is different from this because people post anything and everything they want without fear because everything you do on the site is anonymous. I think this is a good idea to get people to express their feelings or ideas they have, but I am not sure of what good it really does because no one knows who said it or why. I can see is that it is good for self satisfaction and entertainment but there is no credibility. It does seem kind of interesting and fun to look around on or try out sometime. I think it wouldn't always be a good thing because like Chris said, people put up anything they want and a lot of the time the content is inappropriate. I do believe that most people overlook that kind of website because we are so wrapped up in social networks. We want to see people's faces, what they are doing, what they have said, ect. In return, we want people to see our face, what we have commented on certain things, and in some cases we want people to know what we are doing and who we are. With 4 Chan you cannot get the same thing because it is all anonymous. So yes, I do believe that 4 Chan has its ups and downs but I know more people would be interested in using social networks and other similar sites because they do not want to be anonymous.

Artifact 7 Cheaters Beware!
It was interesting to me to read that cheating amongst students was about 20 percent in the 90s, then raised to about 50 percent in 2002, and has since then dropped about 10 percent. The article was from 2008 so since then it could have changed some as well. I was surprised at this because I thought, at least from high school, that students were still cheating just as much or even more. I have never seen anyone cheat the ways they explained in the article aside from having the notes on their cell phones. Yeah I know that there are papers available and numerous other ways to cheat but I just really have never personally experienced anyone cheating in those ways. I did experience a very embarrassing situation about cheating first hand. My freshmen year of high school I was in my basic art class and we had to take a quiz on a movie we had watched and of course I was really paying attention to the movie. When it came time to take the quiz, I looked off the guys sitting next to me for a few answers. One happened to be about how big the shoes were that the video talked about... he took a random, stupid guess and said 15 feet. I didn't read the question and sure enough, I wrote down 15 feet. Then my teacher went on later to say "Connor, 15 feet for a pair of shoes?! Really?!"
Also, I found it interesting that professors spend so much effort trying to catch plagiarism. I know that that is an important issue that should be enforced, but just with all the students a professor has and all the work to be graded, it just doesn't seem like they would spend that much time on it. I did hear about turnitin.com in my senior year english class. It seems like some of the anticheating technology that schools are using or requiring are a little too overboard. Like the 360 degree webcam for an online class. Like seriously, thats almost invading a person's privacy. I think that the testing centers are more appropriate and realistic. Some of the cheat-proof ideas from the article are very good but some I think are taking it a little too far.

Artifact 5- Thank Sex for Making the Internet Hot
This podcast was very interesting to me. I know that porn is a popular thing on the web and we discussed in class the other day that 1 in 3 people look at porn online, but it was very interesting to see how much it really is impacting the Internet. I thought with all the other things the Internet is capable of doing that porn wouldn't be such a major part of the Internet. They make a large amount of money from Internet porn because people spend so much time using it and in some cases they have to sign up and subscribe to it. It said in the podcast that a few years ago porn was getting the most hits on the Internet but today social networks are getting the most hits. I'm sure that porn is still at the top next to social networks. I believe a lot of individuals turn to porn for pleasure and companionship.. or just for fun when they are bored. There are so many different ways you can access porn online and they have taking it to a whole new level lately. With pictures, videos, chatrooms, etc. The podcast talks about how a lot of the things we use today on social networks or just any ways of Internet communication evolved from online porn like watching clips or live videos and webchats. I would have never thought that porn was the thing that really started it all. It is interesting to see how much Internet porn has affected the Internet and other things we do while we are on the computer.
